Introduction

After working in a number of settings for several years, Glenda Maines DPT started Fowlerville Physical Therapy  Specialists in downtown Fowlerville in 2005.  In turn, her husband John Dean PT joined the practice in  2006. Together, they then opened a 2nd clinic in Howell in September 2010. Thanks to the support of many Livingston County physicians, the practice has enjoyed a lot of success & we are enormously grateful for their support & confidence in us, while we are also grateful to the residents of Fowlerville and Howell  who have made us feel very welcome in their communities.

We specialize in the rehabilitation & prevention of orthopedic & overuse / sports injuries & conditions for ALL ages, while we are best recognized for our expertise & success treating spinal related problems.

Our Mission

Is to ensure that every aspect of every patient’s experience while attending our clinic is excellent, including the clinical care they receive.

Meet the Owners

Glenda Maines PT, DPT, MEd, OCS

Glenda grew up in a small town in upstate New York, close to Niagara Falls. As a teenager, she was involved a serious accident. She sustained injuries to her left shoulder & arm, which required highly skilled surgery (to avoid permanent paralysis of her left arm) & months of physical therapy to regain the full use of her arm. Soon after, it was not too surprising to those that knew her, that she choose to pursue a career in Physical Therapy. She earned an academic scholarship to attend Ohio State University & received her Physical Therapy degree in 1979  (also becoming a Buckeye forever!) Since then, she has also earned a Master’s degree in Adult Education from Wayne State University (1990) & a Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from University of St. Augustine (2008) In addition, she is also a Certified Manual Therapist & a Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist.

Aside from her academic achievements, she also has a wealth of clinical experience treating orthopedic conditions & before starting Fowlerville Physical Therapy Specialists in 2005, she had worked in a variety of settings over the years including Henry Ford Hospital & the University of Michigan Medical Center. In addition, she has also consulted with various industries & health related organizations, including the National Kidney Foundation & has been an adjunct faculty member at the University of Michigan Physical Therapy Program.

Now, 30 years after receiving her PT degree, she is recognized for both her academic & clinical expertise, especially in the treatment of spinal related problems, overuse injuries , peripheral neuropathy and Women's Health - an area whereby she is presently completing the course work and training to also become board certified in this area. ( Presently, there is only 1 PT in the entire of Michigan with this qualification)

While staying busy with her professional life, she also finds time to spend with her family (son, Kyle & daughter, Emily) & friends & other personal interests including ‘Big Ten’ Conference Sports, travel, reading & gardening.

John Dean PT, DPT, MHS, OCS,

John grew up in the suburbs of Dublin, Ireland. As a teenager, he loved sports & swam for an elite swim team & hoped to qualify for the Olympics. However at age 15, he learned that he had a tumor in his right leg which required 2 surgeries over the course of a year & with that, any hope of the Olympics was gone.

Up to that time, he had believed when he completed high school that he would become a brick layer. However, after his experience spending time in hospital & undergoing surgery, he began to consider a career in Health Care.

In 1984, he was accepted as a Physical Therapy student at Ireland’s most prestigious University, Trinity College Dublin & graduated with honors 4 years later. Also, during his time in college, he had maintained his ties with swimming & upon graduation, he became the PT for the Irish Olympic Swim team.

In 1988, he emigrated to the United States & settled in Michigan. He earned his Master’s degree in Orthopedic & Sports Physical therapy from the University of Indianapolis (1990) & was 1 of the 1st Physical Therapists in Michigan to become a Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist and Certified Manual Therapist. In addition, over the years he has become certified as a Personal Trainer, Strength & Conditioning Specialist, a Wellness Instructor & most recently a Graston Certified provider. Then, in 2010, he completed his doctorate degree in Physical Therapy at the EIM Institute for Physical Therapy (which is based in Louisville KY) while a principal focus of the program was practice management.

Similar to Glenda, he has a worked in a number of settings over the years & was an adjunct faculty member at the University of Michigan PT Program. Glenda & John 1st met when working at the University of Michigan Medical Center.

Now, 23 years after 1st earning his PT degree, John is recognized for his clinical expertise in a treating a wide of variety of orthopedic & sports conditions including spinal related problems, TMJ dysfunction & headaches, as well as sports related overuse injuries.

On the personal side, in contrast to his wife, John is a MSU Spartan!
